Letter to antisemitic forum by ~Malkavius:iconMalkavius:

Dear Steve,

The irony of having the expiration date of my
suspension set to 1947 has not escaped me. Rest
assured that I am not all indignant although I am
bitter and saddened. I am also hopeful because I still
believe in the cause of Men's Rights Activism even if
I have lost faith in a few of its advocates.

I will keep on the good fight, OUR good fight, by
establishing my own MRA forum that will closely mirror
Niceguy's. Granted, since I am a neophyte at forum
administration, my initial attempt will likely be
somewhat crude but I will not allow myself to be
discouraged. Everyone from Niceguy's forum will be
welcome to join including you. There will be one
critical difference: there will be no "Hidden from
View" section. Men's Rights Activists should not have
ANYTHING to hide or be shameful of. We should also not
be vulnerable to subversion by an obnoxious minority
who do not represent our true goals as in the case of
other initially righteous movements that have gone
astray.

Now, wether my reporting the site to the Jewish
Anti-Defamation League was the right thing to do or an
unfortunate over-reaction remains to be seen. The same
can be said to my immediate banning so we are even.
But try to see where I was coming from: After
critically assessing the responses I was getting to my
protests, as well as the tone and content of what
allegedly neutral members were posting, I was
convinced that there would be no internal resolution
that would be satisfactory. Hence, I felt there was
need to involve a third party. While I cannot confirm
or deny what people say about the ADL regarding its
tendency to be excessive and heavy-handed, one thing
is certain: They represent my people and will NEVER
sell me out or dilly-dally in the face of my enemies.
I can no longer say the same for Men Going Their Own
Way.

Interestingly, Reckless claimed that I was employing
shame tactics and insinuations that the community as a
whole was antisemitic. I did not share his view,
believing myself to be consistently reasonable in
spite of the circumstances and I repeatedly denied
these claims. However, what was going on is indeed
shameful AND antisemitic and it is understandable that
pointing it out would invoke shame and defensiveness.
However, this is not at all the same thing as
employing manipulative shame tactics. It's simply
telling it like it is. We do this all the time to
women. We call it cluebatting. I guess some of us are
not accustomed to being on the receiving end.

On a final note, I am still very thankful for your
help with my application essay and I still consider
you to be a good person at heart on account of this
alone. You have insisted on taking an impartial,
neutral position to this issue and that is noble.
However, you took this position to such lengths that
you have apparently lost sight of something critical.
I believe this lack of perception affected your
judgment and lulled you into complacency and inaction.
I'm certain you know the old saying of what is needed
in order for evil to triumph.

Peace and God bless.

Backstory:
The forum in question was originally a Men's Rights Activism forum which i was a member of for 3 years and recently descended into Antisemitism due to the excessive permissiveness of the staff to the postss of outspoken Antisemites. When I protested this, the consistent response I got was cold and disdainful. I was chided for employing "shame tactics" and "playing the victim".

Victim my ass. I reported them to the Jewish ADL and I was promptly banned when I told them I did it. The stated end of my suspension is September 26, 1947. Cute.

That is very interesting. I wish you luck with it... and would be curious to see your forum when you are set up.

That was the forum I was telling you about and frankly I am extremely disappointed. I understand they were respecting freedom of speech, but when really fucked up sentiments are being expressed that will become a liability the best thing to do is DECISIVELY do the right thing and address the intellectual and philosophical fallout later.

common sense

Very interesting...

In my real life conversations, media watching and in reading, not only the forums on this site but the forums of others as well, I am having my eyes opened to the current rampant state of anti-semitism in the world. I believe that this iloogical, racist hatred of a people is as rampant now (if not more so) as the level of anti-semitisim in 1940's Germany.

Please post any follow-ups to what is going on in this forum as I am very interested to see what happens. Also, I would be very interesting in seeing your forum once up and running.

I am very interested in this and would like to be kept updated.

It is difficult to "show both sides of an issue", when the issue only has one reasonable side. When talking about something like anti-Semetism, I think it is almost impossible to remain neutral.
:iconmalkavius:
There was unambiguously Anti-Jew (and I mean attacks on the religion itself rather than semetic people or Zionism) discussions going on before I was banned and that was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back. It was basically following the tradition of Talmudic quote-mining to prove that the Jewish religion is intrinsically destructive. Of course, what they neglect to consider is that unlike the Halacha, the Talmud is a record of debates among Jewish sages on how best to interpret the Holy Scriptures. Naturally, there would be assessments that would be disagreeable and even extreme. Also to be considered is that this was a long long time BEFORE bourgeois Christian morality was mainstream so you can imagine what frame of reference these sages had to work with.

I'd say you're in the right. No loyalty or common cause requires you to put up with senseless bigotry.

Good luck with your new forum, whenever it comes into being.

This sig space for rent.
:iconmalkavius:
I definitely shouldn't make it a habit of referring to the ADL as the Jewish ADL because it strongly implies that they only look out for their own which is not true.

I don't suppose you can see the irony in a user quote about "omnipotent moral busybodies" in a text in which you justify the silencing of free speech...
